MY FATHER SAID EDUCATING A GIRL IS A WASTE OF MONEY — PART 2

Not with excuses. Not with pride. A real apology.

He admitted that he had allowed tradition and fear to blind him. He told her he regretted the years she lost and the pain he caused her.

And then he said something that stayed with me forever:

“You taught me that a child’s future should never be limited by gender.”

PART 4

Today, our family is very different from the one we used to be.

My sister is a successful lawyer, respected in her profession and known for helping young girls who struggle to access education.

I completed my own education and built a career I once thought impossible.

My mother walks with a quiet pride that no one can take from her. She fought a battle many people never saw, and because she refused to give up, her daughters’ lives changed completely.

And my father?

He became one of the strongest supporters of girls’ education in our community.

Whenever people gather to discuss school matters, he speaks openly about his mistake.

He tells fathers, “Do not do what I did. Invest in your daughters. They can become anything.”

Sometimes I watch him speaking to young girls with encouragement in his voice, and I think about the man he used to be.

People can change.

Not everyone does. But some do when truth finally reaches their hearts.

Our story was never just about school fees.

It was about belief.

It was about a mother who refused to surrender.

A girl who refused to stop dreaming.

And a father who learned, even if late, that love should never place limits on a child’s future.
