The Silence Between Us

Silence.

Every pain.

Silence.

Every conversation.

Silence.

Suddenly tears entered my eyes.

“Do you know how lonely marriage can feel?”

Nothing.

No answer.

Then quietly he whispered:

“I’m sorry.”

Immediately I looked away.

Because honestly...

I hated hearing those words.

Not because they were bad.

But because after years of pain...

Sorry suddenly felt very small.

Very late.

Very weak.

Part 3

That night neither of us slept early.

For the first time in years...

We talked.

Actually talked.

No children.

No television.

No visitors.

No distractions.

Just us.

At first the conversation felt awkward.

Strange.

Like two strangers meeting after many years.

Then slowly things started coming out.

Things I never expected.

Then suddenly he said:

“I’m tired too.”

I frowned immediately.

Tired?

Him?

For years I carried this family emotionally.

Now he was tired?

Maybe my face showed my thoughts because he spoke quickly.

“I know you think I abandoned you.”

Silence.

He continued:

“But I was drowning too.”

I looked at him carefully.

Then for the first time in years...

He started opening up.

About work pressure.

Financial problems.

Business losses.

Fear.

Stress.

Failure.

Things he never shared.
