Jason froze

Because my father had seen him coming long before I ever did.

Six months before the accident, my father had legally protected every major asset in a trust accessible only by me — specifically blocking spouses from touching it in the event of coercion, divorce, or financial manipulation.

My father knew.

Maybe not everything.

But enough.

The judge adjusted her glasses slowly.

“So let me understand this correctly,” she said. “You assaulted your wife one day after her parents’ funeral while attempting to force access to assets you legally could never obtain?”

Jason said nothing.

For once in his life, silence found him first.

Then came the final blow.

Megan entered the courtroom.

Jason jerked upright instantly.

“What is SHE doing here?”

But Megan never even looked at him.

She walked directly to the witness stand and testified for nearly forty minutes.

About the lies.

The affairs.

The gambling.

The fake businesses.

The nights debt collectors called nonstop.

And finally…

The conversation Jason never thought anyone else would hear.

“He told me,” Megan said quietly, voice trembling, “‘Once Olivia gets the inheritance, everything fixes itself.’”

The courtroom fell dead silent.

Jason buried his face in his hands.
